I haven't posted in some time. Life has been very busy and crazy. Someone totaled my 9000 aero while I was DJing. Still gathering parts for the vert. I plan to finally get it running this winter.

New Tradition

Today I started a new tradition. I raised a saab flag in honor of my dad and did a photo shoot with the aero. I also took my girlfriend to meet my dad. I will post pics later!

It's been way too long

It seems my life went into a tail spin after my dad passed away. I haven't felt like working on the airflow. That is about to change. A fellow saablinker made me aware of the fact that my story was published in NINES. This has lit a fire under me so to speak. My life is utter chaos right now. I am still working for the same company doing events as well as working on another project. I took time off of school because I just can't seem to concentrate on it. I still have a house to empty and 2 cars to build including the airflow.

I would like to thank everyone for the support that they have given me over the last year and a half. I feel like I have let the saab community down by not finishing this build. Rest assured it will be completed. Any help is appreciated as my father was my right hand man when working on my cars. Parts donations are welcome but I am not excepting any monetary donations as of now.

I added a new car to the stable, a 95 9000 aero. She is red with light grey leather. Of course it is a 5spd. She gave me hell when I first bought it by throwing a rod bearing but she has a brand new motor in her now and is loving boost. I love this car and I know my dad would be proud of the fact that I swapped the motor myself.

These blogs my be taking on a new meaning in the next few months till it gets warmer. I haven't written about my fathers death in a while and now that I am doing it feels great. I guess in some ways it is quite therapeutic.

Well It looks like the airflow is going on the back burner again. My new aero blew its motor so i had to buy a new one to put in it.

Well today my mom and I managed to move the 900s parts car AKA rusty out of the garage and move the vert in the garage. So now I can really get to work on it!! The snap on man will be bringing me a nice new E-16 torx impact so I can get the head off the 900s motor. If I have time I will upload pics later. I am going out of town for work in a few hours.

I have got a lot done. Split the trans from the motor and got the intake off. The head is on there so tight that I cracked a socket. I need to order a E-16 socket.

Well last night Rusty and I squared off for what I hoped to be the last time but boy was I wrong. I all most completely had the car stripped on the inside and was working on getting fuel pump out when rusty fought back. With two jabs he managed to draw blood with out me knowing. I glanced at my hand and noticed blood all over it. I made my way inside to clean my wounds and called it a night. It turns out while trying to take the supply and return lines off the pump and braking them, one managed to slice my finger open. I have the exhaust, fuel tank, rear bumper, rear abs sensors, door locks, Ebrake handle and wing to pull.

Well I know an update is long over due but I have done nothing to the vert. I didn't go to SOC because my landlord fucked up my move in date. I am sick in bed now, so I figured an update was due. I am still accepting parts and donations.

AIRFLOW BUMPERS ARE A PAIN IN THE ASS

Today I worked on fitting the front bumper today and just don't like how its fitting. I also worked on the lights, lining them up is a pain in the ass too. My saab just throwing me curve balls! One of the studs in the rear bumper is loose causing it to spin so now i need to take the whole mount off to get the bumper off. I am having issues fitting the grille.

Yesterday my friend and I spent the day putting the front end on the vert. It took longer than i wanted but its on. I need to tweak a few things and the bumper needs to be bolted to the fenders, but its a nice to have the bumper back on. The clear corners look hot too.

Last night I worked on gutting rusty more. The interior is pretty much done. This morning i picked up a engine hoist. Here are some pictures of the progress.

Today I changed the oil as well as the trans fluid in the ng900. After that I took the hood off rusty and started taking the bumper off. Tomorrow I am going all out and gutting the car.

I have like 20 minutes before I need to get ready for work so I am going to update (because its long over due). Well last sunday I spent my day at a fellow saabers place blasting and bonding. First we started to strip the wheels with chemical stripper then used 100lbs of sand to clean the rest off. Then we duramixed the airflow bumpers and waited for another saaber to come pick up his car. Here are some pictures...

So I have been kind of busy and not able to update the blog for a few days. I was back at school over the weekend then drove to another saabers place to work on a few of my things. Somewhere along the way I got sick so I slept for like two days. During my hiatus I managed to pick up my road bike too!

The vert gets moved!

Well the vert got moved the new house today it has to sit outside till i make room in the garage which pisses me off. I used my friends AAA card and after bitching with the lady on the phone they agreed to send out a truck. I told them to send out a flat bed but nope they didn't. So I was less then happy seeing my baby towed like this. I saw a lot of water come out of the tail pipe when the car was picked up. I don't know why there was water in there but there was. I pulled the vert out of the garage for the first time in over a year. Besides me thinking that the turbo is cooked and my oil light came on after i turned the car off the car looks great. Here are some pictures.

Today I started to part out Rusty. The interior was the main focus today. I made quick work of the interior, which is pretty much gutted now. It took me three hours to take Rusty's insides out. I didn't have my camera on me so I will take pix of Rusty tomorrow.

Today at precisely 5:03pm my '93 Parts car was delivered to me from columbus. Let me say when that trailer being pulled by a Expedition pulled up I was to say the least in for a thoroughly amusing evening with the previous owner and his family. He backs the car of the trailer and rips off the exhaust. SCORE!!!! The words that came out of his mouth next gave me a idea of what was in for, "god damn my welds on the exhaust didn't hold up I aint no welder." Then his wife chimes in "damn right you aint no welder!" So its off the trailer and the little boy who is six comes up to me "hey hey hey" poking me "are you going to put those wheels on Rusty?" pointing at my SPG rims.Let me back up this kid calls the car Rusty and is in absolute love with it. Close your eyes and let me paint a picture for you. This little kid is wearing a Cars the movie shirt talking about the movie and a little nascar fan in training. If I was Jeff Foxworthy I would be making a redneck joke right now. Oh and by the way these people were raging rednecks. Well after the exhaust breaks the little boy says "daddy Rusty sounds like a race car." At this point the this guys wife is chasing their little girl around my front yard keep in mind I live next to the mayor. Then the little boy comes up to me and he has dirt all over his face and starts talking about how Rusty has wipers for his headlights. This kid follows me around the whole time they were there. The guy tells me they plan on camping out at findlay and do some bike riding. Here is the topping on the cake the little kid gets his bike off the trailer and you won't believe what he hops on, a girl bike with training wheels. I almost lost it. I called up my buddy when they left and I lost it.

Sand Blasting the aero rims

Today I started blasting the aeros, but didn't get far because my sand was wet. I started to blast one rim and will have to finish it tomorrow. My plan is to blast them all tomorrow. Moving on... My vert still hasn't been moved. My buddy is having it towed by AAA but we have to wait to june 1st because he used up all his free tows. He said we can tow it at 7am sunday because I have to be at work at 9am, but I don't see it happening. In other news my parts car comes tomorrow (well today).

Well I am getting the vert towed tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!! The car is running ok for the most part. There is some steam coming from around the radiator so I have to check that out.

I had a busy weekend and this is my first chance to update the blog. I received my 9000 big brake conversion stuff and braided stainless steel brake lines. The car gets moved tomorrow!!!!!

After looking at my 9000 aero rim that I got in the mail I noticed its not totally straight. The one gouge there is in the lip has bent it. So I called and they sent out another rim. Here is the carnage.

So before I can throw some Ds on my vert I have to refinish my 9000 aero rims. One of my rims has a chunk out of it so I bought another rim and it got here today. I'll throw up some pictures of the new rim.

Well I am still getting this garage organized, I have so much SAAB stuff its not funny. And yet some how all the saab stuff I have isn't useful to me in my project. Today I am going to mop out the basement at the new house and take the saab stuff down there. I also am building my air compressor in. Thats it for now, got to get back to work.

Well today I got the vert started she ran for a bit but she sounds like crap. All that sitting made the top end all noisy and killed the battery. She also smoke a little from around the down pipe and then the check engine light came on then when off. Also thanks to my mom's collection of junk in the garage i found mice droppings on the engine. I think the smoke was coming from the turbo, I hope its not seized. How crappy would it be if a mouse got into the turbo while my IC pipes were off. I had to jump start it with the NG900.

I will also be parting the rest of the car out when I get the stuff I want out of it.

Today is the worst day of my life. Yesterday was the first day of summer for me and everything was great. I got in my first bike ride and talked to my dad like I usually do. We talked about the normal stuff that a 20 year old college student and his father talk about. The first thing out of his mouth was how is your car running, talking about my coupe and I replied great. My dad and I had just spent my spring break putting a 9-3 5spd in my 95 ng900SET coupe as well as a few more upgrades to replace the tired parts a 160k mile car has. We go on to talking about my 91 900T Special Edition Airflow vert and how we are going to have it ready for SOC. We said goodbye and I love you and planned to meet up this week. For those of you who don't know my parents were in the middle of a divorce so they were not living with each other. Furthermore my dad had chronic back pain problems resulting in two titanium rods in his back and him in constant excruciating pain if he was not on medicine. At this time in his life he was not on any medication as he was pursuing an alternative treatment which included hypnotism. Today I was awoken by my mother who told me she had some bad news to tell me, in no way was I prepared to hear what came out of her mouth. She told me my dad had been taken to the emergency room and passed away. At that moment I lost it, how could he be gone? I just talked to him the day before and he was fine. I feel robbed of my father. Why did he have to be taken away from me? My mom has always said that my dad and I were the same person. My dad and I had plans not just to finish my car but for him to start biking with me and to buy a Sonett like he had when he was in college. My dad was the one who got me into Saabs, he used to have a Saab parts yard that I used to go play in as a kid. He taught me a lot about these cars and started my obsession with them. The day I got my convertible was a total accident; my dad brought what he called a SPG convertible home that he was going to resell. When I laid my eye's on that car I knew that it was the only car that I wanted, so he paid for half and I paid for half. I went to work on that car right from the start even though it was perfect, but now is in poor shape due to being my daily driver for many years. I put a new alarm in it, and then my dad and I installed the Airflow bumpers and from that point we just loved the car. I am going to miss those long nights in the garage with my dad, not being able to call him up to ask him a question about some weird Saab thing and most of all not getting to roll with my dad in matching 91 SE verts, his yellow and mine grey that he planned on buying. It's just not fair but I know that he is looking down on me right now and always will be. My father was only 50 years old and was taken from us way too young. I had lots more to learn about cars and business from him that I never will. He left this world leaving a family and many friends who loved him dearly and I am better because he was my father. I have to honor him in some way and I have been thinking over and over about this and I told him when I went to see his body in the hospital "Dad don't worry I will have my car done for SOC and it will be a memorial to you." The thing is I have no way to do this as we have to sell our home and money is very tight as many of you know because of my dads business going under. There is no way I am going to break this promise to my dad, I look at this project as a way to heal after this great loss. What I am proposing is getting my friends and my father's friends that are into cars to work on my convertible as a memorial to him and have it done for SOC. I want to put a plaque on the glove box that says in memory of Robert Golub the best father a son could have. There is one thing standing in my way; money and parts to complete this memorial and that's where Saab community comes in. If you can send me anything to help me out please do, I would greatly appreciate it. I am going to put a framed sign in the back with all the people who helped me out with this. I just can't think of a better way to show my dad I loved him then dedicate my finished car as a memorial to him.
